Abstract
Objectives : This study is aim to investigate the anti-diabetic effects of momordica charantia gami saengmaek-san (MGS) in type 2 diabetic animal model.

Methods : We prepared MGS by adding momordica charantia, which has been shown to lower blood s ugar to saengmaek-san. The db/db mice were randomly divided to 4 groups and treated with distilled water, metformin (10 mg/kg/day), and MGS (200 and 400 mg/kg/day). For the normal group was used C57BL/6, which is the wild type of db/db mice. Body weight and fasting blood glucose were measured prior to sacrifice. After 4 week treatment, the levels of liver enzymes and lipid metabolites were measured with biochemistry analyzer. Also, diabetes-related biomarkers levels were measured enzym e-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Results : As well as body weight and fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in serum were also significantly decreased in MGS treated group. And then, MGS treatment were increased the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Als o, MGS changed the diabetes-related biomarkers levels, in detail, MGS decreased insulin and resisti n, increased leptin and adiponectin levels in serum.

Conclusions: MGS may have a potential to improve type 2 diabetes mellitus by modulating fasting blood glucose level, lipid metabolites, and diabetes-related biomarkers. Further studies are needed to investigate the molecular mechanisms for the anti-diabetic efficacy of MGS.
